Analysis Of Digipaks

I looked at several different digipaks that I fount, not all relate to my artist genre, but I was looking more for the conventions of a digipak and the information they need to included rather then the design.

From this I learnt that digipak should have:
  • Name of the album on the front and side pannel
  • Name of the artist, in bigger writing, on the front and side pannel
  • Should stick to a colour scheme e.g. just use 3 main colours
  • Use simple easy to read front
  • Have the production company on the back and side pannel
  • Have a barcode on the back
  • List the name of the songs on the back
  • Have the copyright information on the back
  • Have a cereal number on the side pannel
  • And the insides should include pictures (either of the artist or something that to realtes to them)

Research For Anchillary Products : Summary of the importance and function of digipak to the music industry

What is the function of a digipak ?
  • To promote the artist
  • Give addition infomation about the artist
  • The growth of the artist
  • Audience get something special than other people
Why are digipaks still used despite CD sales dropping?
  • It combat privacy
  • It is like a collectable item
  • Digipak are more interesting
How important are the ancillary products (digipaks, advertisements) to the artist and the industry?

It is very! If you didn't have them then you wouldn't know about them.

Overview of 'Do's and Dont' of design work

Our teacher handed us a simple Do and Don;t handout guidelines that would set us on our way to making a good and decent digipak. above is a screen shot of the handout. Many of these rules had to be recited for example the rule on how we should not place text in front of the artists face, they helped me a lot seeing as I haven't made a digipak before.

Skills Development: Planning and production.

I approached planning this production differently to my AS work, as a lot more needed to be done. First of all the majority of our filming was done in the night time whereas, in AS all my filming was done in day time. I planned to play around with the shots and effects, Which is what we did do. Filming for AS was a lot quicker, it was done in a few lessons. However, filming the music video, we had to keep going out to re film shots, just so they would be better.

Skills Development: Editing skills learnt

So far this year i have learnt about using different effects mainly. We slowed down the dancing in the music video . I also learnt about how to do the "J-LO effect" where we put two clips over one another and play with the capacity to make one clip stronger than the other. By doing this we were able to have a crowd dancing behind me whilst i was lip singing. I never learnt many new things this year. However, i have improved in my skills suck as camerawork and editing.     :)

My Overall experience of making a music video

Making a music video was very different to making a thriller. I knew there would be loads more work that needed to be done this year but i never knew how much. So first of all i'm going to talk about working with my group. My experience of working with my close friends this year was awesome. If any of us were slacking then we would be able to communicate properly with one another and help each other to improve ourselves and get back on our feet. Whenever we had doubts, worries and went through stressful times (Editing) we were able to motivate each other. We were all able to share roles which i liked the best. We took turns filming. Me and viet filmed the tower bridge scenes. Whereas Isla filmed the Camden passage and party scenes. This was done deliberately. This is because me, shannon and viet wanted to be in the music video and Isla did not want to be on camera. So it worked out to our advantage. Me and viet had to hold the lights on shannon performing several times on different days of filming as shannon was the main performer, and isla was filming. Editing was a nightmare as we thought disaster struck and we were not sure if our footage was good enough. However, it worked out and we were able to use it. Shannon was able to play around with the shots and follow through with the "J-LO effect." Furthermore, we all put our idea's into making this music video and were able to agree and disagree with each other. The experience of working with them was great. We laughed hard and had loads of opinionated arguments throughout the whole process, but we got through it all. It is now safe to say that its OVER! :D

Anyway, being a performer was way harder than i thought it would be. Being my confident self i volunteered straight away, unknowing the nightmare ahead of it. I felt nervous doing the lip sync at the party as i had loads of people looking at me. When your put on the spot it becomes way harder to perform. My nervousness did affect my performance. This meant i had to call for reinforcements (Shannon and Chloe). They stood next to me whilst i was performing at the party and were able to hype me up in order for my performance to get better. My nervousness slowly went away and i was able to give a better performance. Whilst they hyped me up Isla and Viet were able to get the shots of me singing that they needed.

I particularly enjoyed the party as it turned into an actual party. So that was my favorite part of the whole process. My least favorite part of the whole experience was filming on Tower bridge and editing. I say Tower bridge because it was freezing and it was raining hard. I had to sit on the soaking wet floor getting the low angle shots of shannon performing. Whilst viet was holding the lights, keeping our bags from getting wet and holding an umbrella over me at the same time. He was Mr Muscle on the night :) I never liked editing as i feel that is my weak point. I just tried to give as much feedback and imput in to my group so that we could edit properly.

I had loads of support from Dan, as i was constantly talking to him about my opinions and worries about the music video. Rebecca noticed some mistakes we made in the video, so we were able to fix them before the deadline. I feel the Camden passage scenes could have been better. However, putting effects on that verse helped to make it look better. I feel if we had more time it could have been better. However, it was hard to meet up and film as we all had busy schedules. Overall i am happy with our music video. :D

FINISHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Feels so good to tick off our group on the wall!! :D

Re-editing our music video again

Final Music Video

........turns out it aint the final video lol, yet again we notices a few bit we had to fix up. At parts the lip syncing was off and we had to change a clip where Shannon sings the echo in the song which looked a bit silly! This shouldn't take to long to fix tho and we'll upload the final.. final video in a bit! :D

Editing Blog

I was bored so I was going through the blog website and trying to make it more attractive as you can see below "Group 23" there is a page counter so when someone visit our blog/group the page counts by the end we will see how many people are visiting our group. I made a few alternative changes like the font and style of the text. I also changed the background from the dark to a more interesting one.

This was the old one.

This is the new one.

I haven't decided yet on which our final background or the style of the layout yet but i am currently going through and customizing it. On the previous blogging site last year i didnt really focus much on the blog so this year i have decided to put more work and effort into the site since this is where we will spend most of our time here so i would like to make it look better and also into our video too.

Teaser Research

When i was just browsing through YouTube i have seen many music video with a teaser it is like a countdown on their official music video and i thought since we have a final deadline for our music, we should do one too since it would be nice to tease the audience xD

Here is an example of what I meant :

3 Days Left

2 Days Left

1 Day Left

P.S. Dont hate I think she is quite pretty and I was bored.

Last Minute Refilm: White Wall Scene

Looking back over our rough cut and with advise from our teacher, we decided to re film the white wall scene of Lashmi... again! We felt that the lighting was to dark and the lip syncing could be improved. So yeah, we done that in todays lesson.. heres a little video we made whiles refilming :)

A little poem about editing

When editing starts to hurt your head you know the deadline's near,
Rushing to get everything done whilst late group members appear,
Getting told to re film at last minute makes you want to scream,
and trying all those different fades that dont work is quite mean,
I have no idea if we will finish on time,
Lashmi, Viet and Isla are filming at the time,
and I am stuck here editing and writing little rhyme
while rebecca's telling us how to save and highlight with yellow signs.

17th Nov - Media Lesson

In lesson today, me (Lashmi), Shannon and Viet edited our rough cut for our music video. We had a guest from the CBAT building and she gave us some feedback. she said it was really nice and she liked the use of our effects such as the dissolves,  she liked the emotion put into the performance, she said that it didn't look like a house party it looked like it was shot in a studio.  We were please about this because we have had some previous queries about those shots. We just need to straighten up a few things and we'll be good to go :)

Teacher Feedback On Rough Cut

Its a bit noisy. What Dan was saying was that we needed to change the start of the video, where it introduces me straight away. Dan said for us to change it so that we could build up to the chorus. Also, to film some extra stuff and to redo the white wall shots and add extra lighting. The majority of the advice he gave us, we done :)

Teacher feedback

Hello group 23
Don't forget to keep up with the blogging - you've not blogged since the 7th (nearly 10 days ago).  There shouldn't be any unexplained gaps in your blog for the construction (filming and editing).

There are some excellent parts to this blog and it's got the potential to get great marks!  Keep up the good work.

Re-Filming

So we filmed the white wall scene during half term at Shannon's house, just before the party scene. The lighting and positioning where all good and look great. However in the second chorus Lashmi felt her performance could of been better, and our teacher agreed it might be worth filming the second bit again, and also getting more angels. So we done that today, me and Lashmi met up during a free lesson, it didn't take long and we're gonna editing them in next lesson and hopefully it looks good!

Editing Update: The 'JLo Effect'

We manage to do the 'JLo effect' we had planned. I think it has worked really well and will keep the audience engaged as its more interesting visually. Although we only planed to use this effect once in our video, we like it so much we may use it a few times.

Below you can see the comparison to JLo's video where we originally got the idea:

Editing Update

So we've starting editing :D yaay

First we imported all our footage onto Finale Cut, looked through all of them and deleted all the unusable clip, weather it be they where to dark, unfocused and so on. We then labeled the ones we could use, this is where we fount out we had more usable footage then we first though! :D

So now we are just focusing on getting the foundation of video down, matching up the lip syncing and putting stuff in the right order. Once this is done we plan to put in loads of effects so it looks very visually interesting.

Shannon Says- editing

Shannon says we did it, we got the transparent shot and it look WICKED!  Lashmi showing off her moves and people dancing slow-mo in the background. OH YEAH! Thank for reading this edition of Shannon Says stay tuned

Editing

After filming during the half term and on Thursday we was editing. I thought that we haven't got enough footage from the party scene because either the lighting was bad or we didn't have different angle of the party scene. I thought it was going be a complete disaster. We was sorting our which clip we can use and which is not suitable.
We still in the process of editing so wish us luck.
