Final Song Choice

Originally our group chose the song Amnesia by Skepta. However, When we started to think about idea's for the video, it got a bit too complicated and started to relate to the original video. Also, lack of props was an issue for us. Therefore, we have changed and finalised our song to Blind Faith- Chase and Status. This song was on our Shortlist.

The reason why we did not go with Blind Faith originally was because the song was too long. However, we are going to shorten the song if needed.

The reason why we chose this song was because we had brighter and bold idea's for the music video. Anything for this video would go, as there is not a direct narrative to the song. The original video did not use the typical conventions that are encouraged in a normal music video, as they used shots of old footage that was put together in a style of a home video. Therefore, we feel we could create a strong music video for this song choice, using conventional filming and editing techniques.

Change of song for the second time.

We decided to change our song to Pack up by Eliza Doolittle, completely changing the theme from Skepta. Going for a more simple happy feel. Our initial thoughts were exciting. We had great idea's for filming a music video to this song choice. We were going to film it at the River Thames, and get shots of happy things such as ballons, ice creams, happy people etc.



However, although our idea's for this video were good, we had to change our song choice again. This was because we are filming in late october and the weather will be unpredictable. We need sun for this video and that is something we need to rely on. Therefore, we could not continue with this song choice.

Skills Audit: Research Skills

Looking back at my AS year I feel like my research skills have greatly improved. Over last year I learnt loads, involving blogs, the media industry, useful websites, and even how to evaluate clips! I am now much more confident to get on with research on my own without having to keep asking for help. Evaluating clips is probably the most improved, I can now watch footage such as music video, as see not only what they have done, but why, and what techniques they have used to do this. This is very useful, as if I see an effect I like, I would be more able to recreate it myself using the same techniques. I have got so used to evaluating footage, that i can't even watch Eastenders now without commenting on the camerawork, editing or something!!

State Of The Music Industry

Despite all the hype about the digital revolution, the music business is in serious financial trouble. Sales where down 7% last year in the UK and nearly 10% in the United States, the world's largest music markets. Two of the four music majors , Sony and Warner Music, admitted their pre Christmas sales were down 10% and 14% respectively.

It's no question that piracy and even legal downloads has had a major role in this problem. With sites like ITunes destroying the notion of an albums in favour of single, downloadable tracks. And several sites with easy access for people to illegally download tracks. The idea of buying an hard copy of albums is just not appealing to people anymore. This could be for several reasons, convenience of downloads, easier to upload on to an ipod rather then having to burn the CD, saving on packaging

Research : Skill Audits

Although my thriller research is totally different to the current research I am doing for my music video the skills I have developed will definitely help me to create a better and brilliant final piece.

From my AS Thriller work research I strongly think that my research skills have definitely improved a lot.

My research work for the thriller has made me realise that the more in depth you research the better outcome your final product will be. 

The editing skill is required a lot for music video because everything depend on your music video and the planning and the research and the production of a music video.

Research : Summarise On Music Industry

Over the years the role of music videos has changed alot.

The traditional role of the music video was to promote the artist’s latest single so that the audience will want to buy the single and also the album of the artist. Also the traditional was to promote videos was by airing songs on channels such as MTV.

Although this was the way music was promoted before it has now become more different. With sites such as YouTube giving the chance for the fans to access their songs on demand for free. Nowadays music videos struggle to have the same impact on record sales which has resulted in money loss. Also music videos are now trying to convincing the viewers the artist perform live; this is because the record labels make the most money from concerts and tours.

As well as showing music videos on music channels and website such as YouTube, the artists can get more popularity by the use of social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace as well as others. With people sharing music videos links on their sites, more people can see the artist’s music video and also possibly become a fan of them and start to like it.

Also away from social networking sites artists can become independent and sell their music on their own websites. A good example of this is Radiohead. Radiohead used a honest box approach where they let the fans decide how much they would want to donate for their album Rainbow. Also they sold their album Kings of Limbs for £6.

In the UK alone there are 67 legal music download services such as bearshare, itunes, and play and many more. There are many ways to for you to download from legally, in the UK about 75% of all downloads are illegal. Over 1 billion Illegal downloads were done in the UK in the year 2010 with such sites like YouTube converter which is so simple to access. This is having a major impact on record labels which is stopping them from making money which results them in selling more merchandise products just to keep the money coming in.

Research : Analysis Of A Music Video

My analysis is on Beyonce - who run the world

I think this Beyonce's video is one of the best example's of a good music video because of the concept of the song. The song turn the stereotype of 'men are the dominant ones in society' as she show us that women can be dominant too and that they should be seen equal to men. In this video she portrays herself as very dominant, superior and she certainly looks like she has a lot of power. She dresses up like a queen and her performance at times looks like she is being violent. The purpose of the video is 'women vs men' as it shows Beyonce and her group of girls trying to have a dance off with the men (the girls seem to win). In the lyrics it say "Who run the world? Girls!" then Beyonce believes that woman are more domniant than men!

I analysis and took some screen shots of the shots in the video where she looks powerful and dominant. The best pictures i think is good to show her power is the one on the top right where she is standing with her gang girls and the lions. This is a good example that show what I mean. Here, it show she is breaking that stereotype of men are dominant of the world.
