I think shes saying woman are treated as sexual objects, and that they are designed in music videos to fit the males fantasy of his ideal woman. This can be shown through provocative dressing. The particular genre of music that uses this to its advantage is hip hop. They make the artist look dominant if they are a man. If a female artist dressed provocatively in her video, it would be to get a wider audience and to appear sexy for male attention. As we all know "Sex sells."
For example Eminem has made a song called "Ass Like That", this comes across as sexist. However, it works as it has now been accepted by society, there are worse things happening in the world, so half naked woman in videos seems to not be a problem today.I feel Mulvey's opinion is relevant because teenagers eyes are now pretty much opened to sex, as many songs are based on sex such as Busta rhymes and Mariah's "I know what you want." This song is purely about sex and it is public and teenagers are watching these video's and accept that this is how it is now in today's society.
