What is the function of a music video?

c video is often to promote the song and the artist. It helps them to become more popular and keeps their targeted audience interested by making new videos. They hope that people will see a particular music video and go out to buy the song. Also, music videos are easily accesible. You can find them all over the internet such as Youtube, Twitter and Facebook. You can also find them on music channels and the radio, which shows a chart list of all the latest and most popular songs.

There are different kinds of music video's that are made which are targeted towards different people. For example Lady Gaga is well known for her crazy and wierd videos. As we know what she is like, as an audience we cant wait to see what she does next, as she is just full of surprises. Lady Gaga dresses provocative in the majority of her videos, in order to get a male audience. She sings songs that are fun, which grabs the attention of the girls. This shows Lady Gaga has been able to capture both a male and female audience.

Artists such as 50 Cent often make videos directed at men by adding in dancers that dress provocative. The song choice would also be directed at men, showing that 50 Cent has a male audience. However, 50 Cent himself never seems to have a top on in his video's, so this could be argued that he may have a female audience too. (I mean if girls are into him :s)

Bringing you back to what is the function of a music video. I suppose it really is to get an audience, which is why i spoke about Lady Gaga and 50 Cent, as it makes the audience interested in what they are going to do next.
