Summary of the main points of Andrew Goodwins's theory.

The main points of Andrew Goodwin's theory is that there are three types of relations between songs and videos. These are Illustration, Amplification and Disjuncture.

Illustrative is where the lyrics match the actions in the video. An example of this is Chipmunk's video 'Oopsie Daisy'

Furthermore, Amplification is used when a video introduces new meanings and does not contradict itself with the lyrics but adds layers of meaning. This is a very effective technique that is used in many videos.
An example of this is Ed Sheeran's "You need me, i dont need you."

Disjuncture is pretty much a video that has little connection with the lyrics. For example wretch 32 Ft Example "Unorthodox", i feel is a good example of a disjunctured video.

I have shown above three examples of Andrew Goodwin's theory about Illustrative, amplification and Disjuncture. He feels pop videos mainly rely on repetition as actions repeat when the chorus plays. Pop songs are often played on TV ads because they are rememberable. Pops songs aslo have some kind of form where there is a closure and ending.
